WHISPERS; A Salute to Fathers

A dream is a wish your heart makes whenever you are asleep.

The desert; a dry and sandy land. The sun shone brightly and its harshness was felt.

Estra's white porcelain skin was beginning to have red patches, a clear sign of being sunburnt. "It's just a matter of time till we reach the next oasis. You'll be able to cool your skin down by then." the man on the camel beside her looked into her eyes with his cold gaze, an affectionate way to look at one's wife.

Two months ago, Estra's father was brimming with joy as she said I do at the altar to a man who couldn't care less; her father knew Isaiah Luthor didn't care about how she felt after all it was a marriage of convenience between her family and Isaiah's family.

"It's fine. No one was said to have died from a sunburn." Estra replied as she adjusted her hat on her small head. "Mrs Luthor isn't just a name, it's a title. Estra Luthor isn't just a person, she's my wife and my wife must be flawless even in harsh situations." Isaiah's voice was enough to down her sunburnt skin. Estra rolled her eyes and stared at the dusty horizon. "Sire, the oasis is upon us." Raman the head of the guide team spoke turning to Isaiah. The grand entourage stopped in front of an oasis, Estra was helped down from the camel by one of the other guides with them, and Isaiah came down from his camel. Estra walked towards the body of clear water with her husband steadily on her heels. He gestured subtly to the guides; a sign for space, and he was left alone with her in no time. Unaware of her surroundings, Estra took her hat off her head, setting it down on a stone which was near the oasis. Her silk slip dress stuck to her little curvy body like a soul hanging on for dear life, the sweat on her body ran like an endless fountain, flowing slowly from her head to the nape of her neck.

Isaiah stared intently at her as she dipped a foot into the oasis, his cold gaze turned to that of hunger; a hunger to ravish. Estra slipped her red dress off her body leaving herself in her black thongs, Isaiah's look intensified; he had never seen such white and milky skin before, talk less of it belonging to his wife of two months. Estra lowered herself slowly, entering the oasis as the chill water slowly hit her white but reddened skin.

"Aren't you coming in?" she asked him clearly seeing the drool at the edge of his mouth. Caught off guard, Isaiah stiffened his face bringing back his cold stare. "I'll just stand here," he replied breathlessly. "Don't be shy, we are married after all" Estra snickered as she pulled her fully clothed husband into the pool of water. His cotton shirt, wet from the chill water stuck to his chest, revealing well-toned abs and big bulging biceps. "Isaiah" his wife whispered into his ear and he awoke from his slumber.

"Isaiah, the twins are here for you." Estra's voice was quiet as she stood in the doorway of their room in their apartment complex in Detroit. Estra smiled at her husband as he sat up in bed. "Daddy! Daddy!! Daddy!!!" two tiny voices filled the air in the room as the twins tacked their father to the bed he had just sat up in. "Leslie Luthor!" Isaiah bellowed. "Yes sir! Sergeant Leslie Luthor reporting for duty!" the five-year-old steadied herself as she saluted her father. "Lysandra Luthor!" he bellowed again. "Yes sir! Sergeant Lysandra Luthor reporting for duty!" Lysandra screamed at the top of her lungs as she steadied herself beside her twin sister matching her salute.

"Daddy! Daddy!! Daddy!!!"

Isaiah looked at the parade as an army of soldiers marched across the field. The seat beside him was empty apart from a bunch of lavenders that sat on it. "Soldiers salute your kinsmen!" the orator's voice was heard loudly across the bleachers where the families of the soldiers sat. The soldiers turned towards their family members and simultaneously saluted the people in front of them. Isaiah stood up teary-eyed as he spotted his girls' side by side. He looked at the seat beside him silently wishing that Estra was here for her babies' big moment.

The induction parade ended and two blonde women in army uniforms ran towards Isaiah as he came down from the bleachers. "Daddy! Daddy!! Daddy!!!" Isaiah stretched out his arms to catch his girls even though they were now protectors of the country. Leslie straightened up and reenacted her constant childhood salute for her dad. "Private Leslie Luthor reporting for duty sir!" Lysandra smiled at her sister as she stood by her side as usual giving her own salute. "Private Lysandra Luthor reporting for duty sir!". Isaiah wept; tears of joy for his daughters and tears of guilt for having to enjoy this beautiful moment without Estra. "I wish your mama were alive; she would have been overjoyed to see you both all grown up and living your dreams. She would have been the proudest soldier Mom." he looked up, staring hard at the clouds. Lysandra put her arm around her father's shoulder and looked up to the clouds. "She's definitely proud and we miss her too." Leslie put her arm around her father's shoulder too, resting it on her sister's arm. "She was our mom but now you are everything' Dad. We love you so much; now and always." she smiled at Isaiah and Lysandra as they both redirected their gazes to the world around them. "Come on Dad, let's go party before we finally leave tomorrow." The family of three laughed heartily at Lysandra's statement as they strolled away into the sunset.

Dear Daddy,

You are a hero,

You are a warrior.

Though unspoken; the tales of your victories fill our hearts.

You are a bright dreamer

A great supporter of beautiful dreams.

You nurture every dream till perfection, till it blooms brightly.

As you go, even if the world doesn't celebrate you every month,

I see you and celebrate you in my heart, my soul and my spirit

Happy Father's Day
